Kaua'i/Oahu
After our admittedly exhausting adventures in the mud of the Kalalau Trail we had two more days on the Garden Island (Kaua'i).
For a bit of relaxation on our hiking-free-day we drove down to Poipu Beach which is in the South of Kaua'i. We spent the day together with Daniel and Stefanie whom we met back in the hostel :) After a bit of snorkeling a big turtle decided to join us on the beach which was very cool! We enjoyed the afternoon in a very lovely café ("Java Kai" right on the main street in Kapaa).
For the last day on Kaua'i we had another hike planned - we wanted to walk along the Awaawapuhi trail to enjoy a view down into the beautiful Kalalau Valley. Unfortunately, the higher we drove (the trail starts at 4200 ft.) the more clouds were there. It rained the entire 4-hour walk and unfortunately the view at the end of the trail was nothing but fog, mist and rain :(
After returning to Waikiki we hiked up the Koko Head which is one of three old volcanic craters on Oahu. The track was very interesting and challenging - basically we walked straight up an old tramline which was about 1200 steps each way ;) After this we visited the Hanauma Bay and enjoyed the rest of the day reading and watching the surfers on the beach in Waikiki.
On our last day in Hawaii we hiked up the Diamond Head (the second of the three craters) and had a great view over the entire Waikiki and Honolulu bay area :) Sadly, we have to disappoint all of you who were expecting pictures of us lying under palmtrees and wearing a flower chain - seems like we have become addicted to hiking instead ;)
After all these walks and hikes in the last couple of weeks we are now set for the next adventure - winter :D
Our next stop is going to be a short visit to Vancouver and then we'll be in New York for a week :)
